As it’s National Hedgehog Day today, I thought I would share some pictures of my own little hedgehog because, to put it simply, African Pygmy Hedgehogs are just too cute for words.
I’m usually greeted with a look of bafflement when I tell someone we’ve got a pet hedgehog. I’ll admit that they’re not a typical animal to have as a pet but they do make a great little addition to the family and she suits us perfectly. As soon as anyone sees her they immediately want one of their own!
She might only be a tiny pygmy who can fit in the palm of my hand even now when she’s fully grown, but our hedgie, Effie, definitely has a big personality. She’s a feisty little thing and is grumpy as hell when you wake her up (I have no idea who she gets her grumpiness from). But as soon as she feels safe she loves to go exploring (she gets that from me) and she always manages to get herself into the most awkward places such as down the back of the sofa or the sleeve of a jumper while I’m wearing it.
I couldn’t imagine not having an animal to go home to every night and, even if I do occasionally get pricked by her spines, she is just the most perfect little thing 🙂
She is so cute!
You’ll have to come visit her some time 🙂
Isn’t she just the most adorable cutie!? Happy national hedgehog day! 😊
She is too cute for words!

Thanks – she’s extremely grumpy but also extremely sweet!
sooooooooo cute. So in which country is it National Hedgehog day? Maybe in Australia we need National Echidna day!
I have no idea which country but maybe just the UK as we lots of wild British hedgehog here! And hopefully Africa seeing as my little one is an African Pygmy! Yes, you should definitely have a National Echidna Day! 🙂
She is the cutest little thing EVER!! Ever since we saw her, we’ve wondered whether we could find one here to own! We want ONE!!! 🙂
See, everyone wants one when they see how cute she is! I think they’re illegal to have as pets in Australia though so you may have to get a pet echidna instead. They may be slightly spikier though! 😉
Oh my gosh! She is so cute! Makes me miss my hedgehog.
Ahh did you have a pet hedgehog too? They are so cute!
I did! She was such a sweetie and she loved to sit in my coffee mugs. Now I have a rat and a bearded dragon. 🙂
I would never get Effie in a mug – she is way too grumpy for that! Love that you like unusual pets too 🙂
ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh, I LOVE Effie!! She is such an adorable little fuzzpig ❤ Please bring her to the next Travel Meet-Up for some snuggles! xx
Fuzzpig?! I LOVE that name!!! Haha I’m not so sure she’d like being carted around with a load of travellers – she might not be so cuddly then 😉
Haha, the bathtime photo is brilliant – she looks so cross! Super cute though 🙂
She gets so mad at me when I try to give her a bath!
OMG!!! What do you mean you have a hedgehog? ❤ My dreaaaaaaam!!!
She is sod you are so lucky to have one!! I told my hubby that when we have a garden Enzzo my dog will have a new friend… a hedgehog. I always had curiosity to know how is it like to take care of one! ❤
Haha she is pretty cute! She’s not a wild one from the garden, she’s an African Pygmy which have been domesticated. I’m sure she would love to be friends with Enzzo! Although he might get a pricked nose if he tries to sniff her!!
Ahhhhh I understand now! Oh my, I want one so bad ❤ their faces are the best!!
Enzzo has been in contact with the wild ones, and now he knows he shouldn't sniff them hahaha
Sooo cute!
Pygmies are super cute!
So ADORABLE!!!!! Ones question – where do you leave Effie when you travel? do you get a pet sitter?!!
She goes to my grandparent’s house when we’re away. She loves them so it’s like she’s having a little holiday of her own!
