With full time jobs, mortgages and all those other sorts of responsibilities that grown ups have to deal with, it can sometimes be hard to find enough time to jet off to all these different destinations that we’d love to. But I’m not the sort of person who lets a few tedious responsibilities get in my way and so I try to make the most of every single holiday and weekend that I have. We take full advantage of every bank holiday weekend as they’re perfect for taking a short weekend break somewhere a bit closer to home.
We’ve discovered some gorgeous places on these weekends, all within easy reach of our doorstep. Trips to Bath, the Cotswolds, Oxford and most recently Cornwall, where it was often hard to imagine that we were still in the UK with the picturesque coastline and bright blue sea.
The Channel Islands are somewhere that I’d love to explore on one of these short breaks. Jersey is only a quick one hour flight from London and yet it looks like it should be somewhere far more exotic. I’ve been eager to take a trip there recently, so when Visit Jersey asked me to put together my own little idea of the perfect romantic break, I thought it would be a great excuse to start planning our trip.
I didn’t realise that this tiny island, not far from the south coast of England, has so much to offer. With magnificent castles, war tunnels and barracks, museums and markets, it seems like there’s something for everyone. But our favourite thing to do would be exploring the scenic coast and all the gorgeous bays and beaches that dot the coastline.
There are plenty of adventurous activities to do as well from hiking to surfing (I’ll leave that one to Mr Ayla again!) to everything in between. Taking a kayak out on the water and making our way around the shore sounds like lots of fun, although I’m bound to topple over if my previous experience of water sports is anything to go by!
Whether it’s visiting the animals at the zoo or spotting some wildlife on the wetlands, I always find myself making friends with the furry locals. I’d definitely be on the lookout for some Jersey Cows because, in all honestly, who could resist befriending these cuties?
Jersey is also meant to be a huge foodie destination and you all know how much I love my food! With a food festival that takes place on the island every year, several Michelin star restaurants for a bit of luxury dining or, for something a bit more simple but that I find much more romantic, beach cafés where we can have a drink and eat our meals overlooking the ocean.
I really do adore a bright colourful sunset and the ones in Jersey look simply stunning. I can already imagine myself sitting on the rocks with Mr Ayla, with only the sound of the lapping waves around us, watching as the sun sets over La Corbiere lighthouse.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who can imagine myself here, but if you head over to Escape to Jersey you can create your own video to see just how much fun an adventure you could have and be in with a chance of winning a romantic break there yourself.
Have you ever been to Jersey? What should I add to my list of things to see and do? Let me know in the comments below or at:
I love Jersey, we went there for our summer holiday last summer. Quite different to our usual beach holidays, but we loved it. There are a few blogposts about Jersey on my blog, shameless plug I know. But I’d recommend getting a car and driving to all the different beaches. Gorey is lovely, as is Rozel. Plemont and the beach on the west coast are beautiful. We also visited Jersey Lavender and the Wine Estate.
Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely take a look as I’m hoping to go myself next year. Looks beautiful!
I would LOVE to go to Jersey too!
I managed to get over to Guernsey last year, and it was one of my favourite trips in recent years. Jersey seems like the next logical step 😛
Your pics of Guernsey were gorgeous Kasha. I think a trip to Jersey is definitely next on the agenda for you 😉
Ah this has got me daydreaming about my next escape Ayla! I’ve never even thought of visiting Jersey but the beaches look stunning – I should add it to the list for my next long weekend 🙂
I never really think of visiting many places that are so close to home either but it just shows that there is so much to discover right on our doorstep. And it looks so beautiful!
I went to Jersey years ago as a kid and it was one of the best family holidays we ever had! The weather was amazing and we practically had the beaches to ourselves! Would love to go back one day 🙂
Sounds like it would be a perfect return trip for you Emily with lots of lovely memories 🙂
