Seeing the bright swirling spectacle of the Northern Lights is one of those bucket list items that everyone dreams they’ll have the chance to see just once in their lifetime. Since I was a little girl I’ve always been fascinated with space, the stars and the unknown, so I can only imagine how spellbound I would be if I had the chance to see them myself.
So when I came across Transun’s competition to win a trip to see the Northern Lights it was too hard not to resist entering. The prize sounds incredible with a trip for two people to the Arctic Circle to see the lights, go on a husky safari and plenty of other fabulous inclusions. To enter all I had to do was share my own top 3 travel bucket list destinations in a blog post – so of course I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to talk about travel some more!
As expected, I found it impossibly hard to choose only 3 destinations. I already have my extremely long bucket list that I’m constantly adding items to, but looking through this didn’t help me to narrow it down in the slightest.
Seeing the Northern Lights would have taken one of my top spots but, seeing as I’m entering a competition to go and see them, I figured my desire to go there was pretty obvious. So, after a huge amount of umming and ahhing I finally managed to pick just 3.
See the cherry blossoms in Japan
The culture, the people, the bright lights, the stunning scenery and the pure quirkiness of the place has made Japan somewhere I’ve dreamed of visiting for years. I would love to explore the bright city of Tokyo, sip tea with geishas in Kyoto and sleep in a traditional ryokan with views overlooking Mount Fuji. But mostly, I want to see Japan when it is covered in colourful pink and white cherry blossoms. I mean just look at how pretty!
Make friends with the wildlife in the Galapagos Islands
Being the huge animal lover that I am, the Galapagos Islands have to feature high on my list. Full of tiny islands to explore by boat in a place that seems so remote from the rest of the modern world. The main thing that attracts me to this South American paradise are the locals that I’d get to meet – and by locals I mean the animals! Getting up close and personal to sea lions, turtles and all sorts of wild exotic species in their own natural habitat would be a dream come true for me.
Explore pretty much anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa
Now I know I’ve already been to Africa but this really isn’t a place that I could ever leave off my bucket list. We spent 4 months travelling from Kenya all the way down to South Africa, visiting the most incredible places, making friends with the warmest people, and volunteering with children and wildlife. I never imagined that I would fall so deeply in love with the continent and not a day goes past when a happy memory from our time there doesn’t pop into my head.
I long to return, and this time I would visit the tribes of Ethiopia, lay on the beaches of Mauritius and spot wildlife in Madagascar. I would also love to do another road trip along the Garden Route and explore some more of South Africa’s towns, which was one of the highlights from our time in Africa.
So there you have it…my top 3 totally amazing bucket list destinations. Now my feet are starting to itch just writing about these places. I hope I’ve made yours itch too!
